Parent Volunteers

Calling all parents interested in volunteering at our school library.

We need you!

Looking to be involved in your child's school?
Have a love of reading?

The JRR Library is looking for parent volunteers to help:

- check in and out books for visiting classes using the circulation computer
- organize and shelve returned books
- help look up and locate requested books by teachers and students
- supervise and run school book fairs

Computer skills an asset but not required.

Please speak to Ms. Tong in the library about your available days and times.

Thank you for your dedication and hard work!  Our library would not be fabulous without you!

List of Tasks for Parent Volunteers

Book Exchange

  • The most important duty for parent volunteers in the library is to help students with book exchange.  There are separate sets of instructions on how to use the circulation system and how to access the library catalogue.

Quick Stack Maintenance

  • Please look over the collection to find any misplaced books, for example, sitting on the top of shelving units, placed horizontally on top of the stacks, on the floor or tables etc.  These books should be re-shelved in their appropriate location.

Process Returned Books

  • Returned books are placed by students in the blue bins marked "Return Books Here".
Once scanned in, books should be placed on the appropriate section of the shelving carts.

Shelving Books

  • Choose a section of books from the shelving cart and shelve the books.

Serious Shelf Maintenance

  • IF time permits, please choose a section of the stacks and carefully go through it.  Make sure the books are in proper order and that no strays have found their way into the section.  Please note in the chart pinned on the Volunteer Board the date and section you have inspected.  Thank you!  This one is hard work.
