Welcome to John Ross Robertson's Learning Commons blog! The term "learning commons" is in place of the traditional ideas of a library and computer lab. Although it encompasses those things, our Learning Commons represents a more comprehensive meeting place where learning, collaboration, communication and inquiry happens amongst teachers and students. At the heart of our Learning Commons is a love for literacy and technology learning.
Our Learning Commons is set up with spaces to support individual and group activities such as:
- research and inquiry-based learning
- media creation and communication using technology
- Maker Spaces to create and explore STEMA (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math & Art) activities
- literacy and drama activities such as read alouds, retells and author visits
- book check-ins and check-outs
- quiet reading and reflection
- small group staff and student meetings
- a computer lab able to accommodate up to 32 students + teaching projector
- webcams (TBA)
- DVD players
- CD player
- Smart Board
- overhead projector
- photocopier
- scanner
- Ipad lab (wishful thinking:)
